Next surgery is Friday, August 15th
Terry and family met with the surgeon today, and Terry consented to the amputation at the knee on his left leg. Naturally, it was very emotional for Terry. Surgery will be done this Friday where they will also open and check out the muscles and tissue in his right leg to ensure that all is healing well there. They are still unable to plate his right leg at the tibia due to some existing blistering, but have options of pins if needed. All other vital stats are good. Terry is still very weak, but that is to be expected. He talked to his kids today on the phone and we have secured permission to allow the kids to visit him for a short period tomorrow. That will definitely boost his spirits.

What Happened?
On Saturday, August 2, at approximately 11:30 a.m. Terry McDowell was involved in a head-on collision on Ormond Road in White Lake Township, MI.
An unknown young-adult fell asleep at the wheel, crossed over into the opposite lane, and struck Terry's van head-on. Police are still investigating.
Paramedics rushed Terry via helicopter to Beaumont Medical Center's Trauma Unit. He is in stable, but critical, condition and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit.
From what we know, there is no damage to the spinal cord or brain. He will undergo more X-rays and scans today to determine if there are further injuries. His injuries, as of Sunday, Aug 3 at 10:00 a.m. include:
> Broken right femur
> A compound fracture in his left femur
> A broken tibia
> A shattered ankle
> Slight cut to his liver
> Dissected aorta
> Fractured pelvis
> Unknown back injury
> Three broken ribs
Terry underwent 11 hours of surgery on Saturday evening. The first surgery was cardiac surgery to repair the damage to his torn, or dissected, aorta. They performed non-invasive heart surgery and used a stent to repair the aorta. The surgery was completed without complications.
The second surgery was orthopedic surgery to repair his broken bones. He came out of surgery strong, but remains in critical condition due to the complications that could arise from heart surgery and a compound fracture of the Femur.
He is expected to remain in the ICU for at least 48 hours.

Kooz!
A visit from the kids should give him a fresh dose of mojo! That must've been difficult, giving the official go-ahead, but don't worry... they'll rebuild you. They have the technology... they'll make you better than you were before... better, stronger, faster. ;) Can we call you the Six Million Dollar Man now?
Think of you often Terry and family. Let us know if you need anything. Can't wait to see you!
SEEING THE KIDS WILL BE GREAT FOR THEM AND TERRY HOPE FRIDAY GOES AS GOOD AS IT CAN.KEEP YOUR HEAD UP.
YOUR IN OUR PRAYERS
THE COLEMANS
New Day, New Strength Terry:
What a journey you have been on. Our son Jason called
to tell us of the challenge you have been given and
what a wonderful young man you are. Challenges like
those you have been given are only passed out for the
courageous and inspirational ones. You obviously
have been chosen as you are a leader, leading others
by your day-to-day example of courage and upbeat
acceptance of this mishap.
You also have your priorities set when your mom
mentioned that all you needed were your arms so you
could hug your kids and Dana. What a gift you gave
them with this statement! I realize much of your
early experience during your hospital stay will be
forgotten, however your loving family and friends have
kept this blog to help you see how strong you are
passing these tests along the way. May this strength
and the love of your family and friends continue and
help you to soar to new heights. Your future is about
to unfold in new and wonderful ways. Keep smiling and
shine on!
Art and Shirley Kussner
best of luck to you and your family .
I hope everything goes well .
